Veterinary Acupuncture

What It Does

Acupuncture is the art of manipulating the body through the use of needles in specific points on the body, to create therapeutic responses to disease conditions. One of many holistic modalities, acupuncture can be used to treat a variety of disease conditions including:

  • Arthritis pain
  • Neurological problems
  • Metabolic concerns
  • Spinal difficulties

With a long history in Chinese Medicine, acupuncture has proven results. It is well respected in Western Medicine today and numerous studies point to the success of this treatment.

How It Works

Acupuncture works by changing the signaling pathways of the body, promoting pain relief, healing, and immune system stimulation. In this way we “help the body to help itself” rather than using high doses of drugs, which are often more harmful than helpful. Although acupuncture can be quite useful in treating many disease conditions, we generally do not recommend it as our primary treatment.

As many specialists recommend, acupuncture can be used to treat arthritis pain, particularly in the earlier stages of this disease. Acupuncture treatment allows painful muscles to relax and modulates the pain signals from the brain.

Benefits of Treatment

Acupuncture can be used successfully to help control pain. Studies show positive results for severe disk disease in dogs, both in regained function and improved recovery after surgery. Horses with back pain, soreness, or lameness may experience significant relief with acupuncture, and many top competitive horses receive this treatment on a regular basis. Acupuncture is an excellent method of therapy for both competitive horses and “weekend warriors”.
